Please guide me in designing the Strom water Drain Layout for a Plant.

What should be the slope of the Storm water drain?

What should be the maximum depth to which it can be taken?

Dear Mr. Suyog

To Design Storm water drain for any Industrial complex, you should have the following Data :-

1) Rain fall data of past 100Yr (as per the expected return period / Design service life of the structures )
2) Surface runoff - based on land slopes, soild drainage capacity
3) Expected structures in the surounding locality (viz. Dams / Tall bldg etc.)
4) Design slope of land say 1:100 / 1:150. Orientation of Drains - Main Drain and the Sub-Drains.
5) Hydraulic parameters - Lined drain / Unlined drain. Water Intake from any other sources (say adjoining plats). Maximum possible Width / Depth (specially in-case where there are under ground services / cables etc.)
Then choose suiatble formula for estimating the discarge - velocity - wetted perimeter - area - Hyd mean depth etc.

Rain Water Ditches/drains
Plants project requires a lot of working & there are supports from FEED as well as Design specifications.
I thinks first study the design philosophy that must be indicated within the design scope of works in surface drainage.
The drains that you are referring to, are conventionally constructed open with sides slope in cross section while longitudnal gradients are quiet considerable.
The trapezium sectional profile is generally constructed by fibre concrete with nominal reinforcement as a part of RCC lining.
The top level of the drain is generally fixed so that the drain receives the surface waters successfully without any problems.
There are plant roads within all plants & the hard shoulder shall drain away the waters to the drain after reciving from the catchment area of road surface / carriageways.
I have seen the minimum depths from the initail IL say -1.2 to 1.5 m deep & at the discharge end of lagoon or drainage of plant for treatment say even 8 to 10 m that is visible like a big canal type drain.
Well, it is to be seen how the profile in plan looks like.
There can be varying directions of flow from every intersections & there may be underpasses at many crossings.
since the plants always got many types of underground services, a major coordination input would be required & one cannot design these profiles by these simple gradients. Many factors would have to be considered. You are advised to go through verious drawings where all these underground services are given.
Not only the drains, but there would also definitely be swales that are little deains in sections.
EJ to be provided on the sloping walls. These wall vary from 45 to 60 degrees to horizontal. Concrete protection needs be provided to the surfaces.

Dear all,

I am also working on designing drain for a cement plant. I am advised to use ) 0.75% gradient. My only concern is there is a streetch of 250m which is at the same level but the drain depths go to 2.5m which is not required. can u please help me on this.
